Field Trip Tomorrow
Our school has just become a partial magnet focusing on math and science. More specifically on the environment and coastal protection (when we eventually get into our new school, it will be on a barrier island). To start the year off with a bang, tomorrow we are going on a field trip to the beach to pull seining nets and study some of our local ocean creatures. Teachers had the opportunity to do this same trip during the summer and I know it is going to be a great experience. My concern is it is only the second week of school...OH MY! Am I ready to take my kiddos to a beach??? At least our day is early in the week...each day, a different grade level goes. We all have our eyes glued to the weather to see what Hurricane Irene is going to do! Our school has incredible parent support so I know I will have extra help. Wish me luck!

Our first Week
We had a great first week back to school! I have a wonderful group of kids and parents! At the beginning of the summer I went to several workshops on Action Based Learning. My first step towards making my classroom truly action based was to replace our student chairs with stability balls. Needless to say this took some adjustment on my part when going over classroom expectations the first few days! 'Ball Etiquette' was one of the first lessons we had on Tuesday! I think once the novelty wears off we won't even notice the difference. One of the reasons I started this blog was to hopefully get some other ideas about incorporating movement throughout my day. I have always done 'brain breaks' but I want more movement when teaching all subjects.

A New Blog and a New School Year!
I have recently discovered the world of blogging. I quickly became addicted and can't wait to get my own blog up and running. Our school is going through a lot of changes. Last year we moved to a new (well, new to us...it is actually an old school we are using for a few years) while our brand new school is built. We have also just become a partial magnet school focusing on math and science.
Teachers started last week and I got to meet most of my sweet first graders this past Friday at our Fact and Fee Day. We have one more work day before the official start of the 2011-2012 school year on Tuesday. I am really looking forward to using some of the ideas I have found on all of the incredible blogs.
